National Vocational Qualification 

At Total Training Providers. we have a range of NVQ’s to support the training needs of the construction industry. 
 
NVQ’s are now considered mandatory in the construction industry, with the support from the government to help create a skilled workforce. An NVQ in Construction will help demonstrate that you are competent and capable of the job in question. 

Do you have the relevant NVQ in Plant Operations? 

No? To get your Red Card you must complete the following steps: 
 
Complete basic or refresher training. 
Pass the CITB HS&E test within the last 2 years. 
Pass the relevant CPCS Technical tests (Theory and Practical) with an approved CPCS test centre in the right plant category. You will now automatically be awarded your 2 year Red Card. 
Within the lifetime of this Red Card (2 years) you need to register and achieve an NVQ. When achieved you can apply to Upgrade to a Blue Competent Operator Card. 
 
Yes? To get your Blue Card you must complete the following steps: 
 
Complete refresher training to show you are keeping your skills up to date. 
Pass the CITB HS&E test within the last 2 years. 
Pass the relevant CPCS technical tests (Theory and Practical) with an approved CPCS test centre in the right plant category. You can now apply for your 5 year Blue Card. 
Renew your Blue Card every 5 years. To do so, you must: Pass the HS&E test within the last 2 years, pass the renewal test modules for each category you wish to renew. Plus achieve one of the following: Record at least 300 hours per category in your logbook, or complete and on-site assessment.
